Microsoft discontinuing zune hd
I fell in love quickly, dedicating hours to burning my collection of awful CDs onto my molasses-in-winter-speed PC to then transfer onto the Zune. It was oppressive and ardent, with a sense of blind loyalty rivaling the MAGA crowd. I fell into my new social standing quite easily, trying as hard as I could to deflect the wry comments from my friends and family with facts and figures to explain what drew me to this underdog MP3 player.
It was bigger and less ergonomic, sure — but I found excitement in the unknown. All you saw when you turned on your television was the iPod. Seemingly every product out there was specifically Apple compliant: car chargers, portable speakers, etc. I have a distinct memory of walking around Boston with my Zune in my right pocket and a charging cord in the left.
I have to assume other Zune owners felt at least some semblance of what I did every time a family member or stranger asked if they could touch my hideous MP3 player. How do you put music on it? Wanna hold my Nano? Microsoft have now discontinued the selling of its Zune HD original devices which were sold directly from the company. To purchase a Zune HD device, please visit one of our retailers. While the purchasing of the ordinary Zune HD devices is still open to consumers at a couple of stores, ZuneBoards , which first spotted the change, has stated that they believe this is the beginning of Microsoft's efforts to take the Zune out of the market.
Given that the Zune HD original devices were customised versions of the standard Zune device, it won't affect the overall availability to consumers but it does represent the beginning of the end for the portable music device. In some sense, this has been a long time coming given that we firstly heard rumours that the devices and the brand were being scrapped and later confirmed that parts of the brand would be merged into Windows Live services.
Microsoft have done nothing to promote the Zune brand and have been primarily focusing on the release of Windows Phone, so much so that the company recently announced the porting of applications from the Zune HD marketplace to WP7.
I think the popularity of music players is falling because mobile phones now have better screens, include music players and internet. You can buy a cheap mobile and some of them have music players. After all, the convenience of a music collection on a portable player formerly a physical music format, e.
Kyle, a while ago you wrote about the revenue generated in the format replacement cycle. Personally Apple is over-rated. The Zune HD had better sound, video, and game quality. Well obviously they have more than that since the Apple products are still around and not being discontinued. May be someone will get it right and provide an alternative and continue to support it.
Not very interested in getting caught up in all things Apple. As someone who has, iPods have nothing on Zunes except a blind fanbase. I have a gig Zune, with 64 gigs of almost exclusively Jazz.
I am very saddened by this, the Zune software has a much better interface then iTunes both on the computer and on the mp3 player itself and I dread the thought that no one else but apple makes a large enough mp3 player to fit all my music in one place.
Fans gave up on the product far too quickly. Even Steve Smith, the man who infamously tattooed three Zune logos onto his skin including the Zune's slogan, Welcome to the social , decided to have his tattoos covered up in frustration of Microsoft's music player. I am done, wrote Smith in an online forum over at Zune Scene.
I have had the Zune since day one and have noticed little improvement. I have tried my best to support them in every step of the way but the recent Xbox Live announcement at E3 made me lose it. To not include Zune Marketplace or the ability to load videos from Xbox Live to your Zune made me finally give up. I am in the works of figuring the best way to get a new tattoo to cover the logo on my arm. Thanks for all the harsh comments and you will see very little of me anymore.
